Norbury forms a part of three London boroughs – Croydon, Merton and Lambeth. The name of the locality is derived from North Burth, which means ‘North Borough’, based on its northern position to Croydon. Norbury lies on the Roman road from London to Brighton, where remnants of an ancient fort can still be seen. The famous Norbury railway station was opened in 1878, although the line had been operating since 1962.
Major redevelopment and redesign was conducted in 1902 so the lines could connect Norbury with London Bridge, Croydon and Victoria.
