New Cross Gate is a railway station located in the area of New Cross, London. During the railway boom in the 1830s, two competitive railway companies built stations in the locality and named them with the name of New Cross. To avoid the occurring confusion, the earlier one was later renamed to New Cross Gate. The original station was opened in 1839, and had been a subject to rebuilding every ten years from then up to 1928, when the line was electrified.
Since then the station has been fully functional, except between 2007 and 2010, when it was closed for renovation, and in 2010 it became a part of the modernized London Overground system.
